How much? Daily amount, per Ranvet

• Horses in work: 15 to 30 g
• Spelling horses: 15 g
• Yearlings: 15 g (Ranvet's label PDF says 15 to 30 g)
• Stallions at stud: 15 to 60 g
• Pregnant mares: 15 to 60 g
• Horses with muscle problems such as tying up: 30 to 60 g

Mix thoroughly through dry feed every day. A measure is supplied, but Ranvet's website says a level measure holds 15 g and its label PDF says 30 g. Weigh a first scoop, or check the label on your tub, so you give the right amount in grams.

Why vitamin E?

Ranvet says vitamin E is highest in fresh green pasture and low in grains and roughage, so a horse on a high-grain diet with limited fresh pasture needs it supplemented.

• Reduces muscle recovery time after strenuous exercise
• Protects cells from free radical damage
• Essential for optimum fertility
• Helps prevent "training off"

Good to know

• Selenium: vitamin E works with selenium. Ranvet warns that too much selenium can be toxic, so check your horse's total selenium before adding more.
• Tying up: Ranvet lists a higher dose for horses with muscle problems. A horse that ties up needs a vet. This is a supplement, not a treatment.
• Competition: Ranvet's product page says nothing about racing or competition rules. If you compete, check with your federation or vet.
