Which Grooming Tool for Which Coat? A Plain Guide for Dog Owners in Qatar

Quick Answer: Thick undercoat on a double-coated or short-haired dog: the King Double Super Coat. Medium undercoat or hard, wiry hair: the De-Shedder 90. A fast clean-up of loose hair on a short coat: the Mitt. Tangles: the Pin Comb. Most dogs need one or two of these, not all four.

These are all Artero pet grooming tools we stock in Doha. They do different jobs, so this is not a ranking. It is a guide to matching the tool to your dog, including the cases where the cheaper tool is the better choice.

Prices below are current as of 3 November 2026, based on current stock. Pricing may change in future shipments. Check niceequestrian.com or WhatsApp us at +974 6668 2040 to confirm current pricing before ordering.

Which tool suits which coat?

Tool Best for Price (QAR)
Artero King Double Super Coat Double-coated and short-haired dogs shedding undercoat M 75 / L 90
Artero Golf De-Shedder 90 Medium undercoat and hard hair, dogs and cats 60
Artero Laika Rubber Mitt Quick removal of shedding hair, short-haired dogs and cats 40
Artero Tango Wide Pin Comb Opening up the coat and teasing out tangles, short to long coats, large and medium-size dogs and cats 30

Prices cover one tool each. The King Double Super Coat has a different number of teeth on each face: the L has 11 and 21, the M has 7 and 13. Nothing else is included.

When is the King Double Super Coat the right choice?

Choose it for a double-coated or short-haired dog that is shedding undercoat. Labradors, Corgis and similar dogs with a dense short double coat are typical examples, and the American Kennel Club (AKC) says these coats usually need weekly brushing to remove loose undercoat.

It is double-sided, and the two faces have different tooth spacing. On the L, one face has 11 teeth for very dense coats and large tangles, and the other has 21 teeth for medium coats, small tangles and finishing. On the M, the faces have 7 and 13 teeth. Artero says it can also cut through knots and tangles and help with stripping by removing undercoat and pulling out some hard hair.

Not the best choice if: your dog has a short, single coat with little undercoat. The Mitt will do the job for less.

Qatar Climate Note: the AKC notes that double-coated dogs living in warmer places can shed all year, not only in spring and autumn. In Doha, expect shedding in every season, not just two.

When is the De-Shedder 90 the right choice?

Artero Golf De-Shedder 90 for Dogs and Cats, Nice Equestrian Doha Qatar

It has a 90° blade angle for medium undercoat and hard hair. Artero describes its De-Shedder range as having a stainless steel blade, narrow teeth and a bamboo body, for short coats, double coats, spaniels and wire coats, on dogs and cats. Artero also makes 45° (the finest undercoat, close to the skin and in depth) and 120° (drags shedding hair and removes surface undercoat and covering hair) versions. We stock the 90°. If you think your pet needs a different angle, WhatsApp us before buying.

Not the best choice if: you press hard or use it too often. AKC breeders who use blade-style de-shedders say that used incorrectly they can damage the coat. Use light pressure. If your dog's coat is curly or very long, ask your groomer first.

Pro Tip: do this outdoors or on a balcony. Breeders quoted by the AKC say a de-shedding tool pulls out a surprising amount of hair in just a few minutes.

When is the Mitt the right choice?

Artero Laika Rubber Grooming Mitt for Dogs and Cats, Nice Equestrian Doha Qatar

The Mitt is the simplest tool: rubber prongs, a bamboo handle, and circular movements over the coat. Artero lists it for short-haired dogs and cats, and says it picks up fine hair that normal tools or de-shedders may miss. We stock it in red and green. The AKC also says rubber tools suit short coats well.

Our honest view: for a short-coated dog, the Mitt may be all you need, and it is the second cheapest tool here. On a thick coat in heavy shed, the King Double Super Coat or De-Shedder will reach more undercoat.

When is the Pin Comb the right choice?

Artero Tango Wide Pin Comb for Dogs and Cats, Nice Equestrian Doha Qatar

It opens up the coat and teases out tangles and dead hair. Artero describes it as a wide comb with long, fixed, chrome-plated pins and a bamboo handle, for short, medium and long coats on large and medium-size dogs and cats. Artero also makes the Tango Extra Extra Fine Pin Comb, which we do not currently stock.

Not the best choice if: your main problem is shedding. It is a tangle tool, not a de-shedding tool. For a severe mat, see a professional groomer. The AKC advises against cutting mats out yourself, because one wrong movement from a nervous dog can cause injury. For a small one, it suggests working it out gently with your fingers, conditioner and combs.

Do I need all four tools?

Probably not. Here are some honest combinations, using today's prices:

  • Short-coated dog, light shedding: Mitt (QAR 40).
  • Labrador-type short double coat: King Double Super Coat M or L (QAR 75 / 90), plus the Mitt if you want a quick daily wipe-down (QAR 115 / 130 together).
  • Wiry or hard coat, or a spaniel: De-Shedder 90 (QAR 60), plus the Pin Comb for tangles (QAR 90 together).
  • All four: QAR 205 with the M King Double Super Coat or QAR 220 with the L. This is only worth it if your dog has a thick coat that also tangles.

Your groomer or breeder knows your dog's coat best. The AKC suggests asking them before buying tools.

Pro Tip: do not shave a double-coated dog to cool it down. The AKC says the undercoat insulates against heat as well as cold, and shaving can cause uneven regrowth and a higher risk of sunburn. Regular brushing is the better answer in Doha's summer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the King Double Super Coat and the De-Shedder 90?

The King Double Super Coat is for double-coated and short-haired dogs shedding undercoat. The De-Shedder 90 has a 90° blade angle for medium undercoat and hard hair. Both remove loose coat, so most dogs need one or the other.

Is the Mitt enough on its own?

For many short-coated dogs, yes. For a thick double coat in heavy shed, you will probably want the King Double Super Coat or De-Shedder as well.

Which tool is best for tangles?

The Pin Comb opens up the coat and teases out tangles. The King Double Super Coat can also work through knots and tangles on double-coated dogs. Severe mats should go to a professional groomer.

Can I use these on my cat?

Artero lists the Mitt, the Pin Comb and its De-Shedder range for dogs and cats. It describes the King Double Super Coat for double-coated and short-haired dogs, so we only suggest that one for dogs.
